NFA Watch is an independent project that tracks real ATF approval activity from community-reported filings. It exists to answer one question honestly: how long is the NFA wait right now?
What this is
Every wait time on this site is computed live from approvals that filers reported themselves. There is no marketing budget behind the numbers and no dataset bought from anyone — just what the community submits, aggregated and shown back to everyone for free.
It is independent. No ads, no paywall, and no premium tier between you and the data. Some links on the site are affiliate links — if you buy through one, NFA Watch may earn a commission at no extra cost to you, and those are always disclosed where they appear (full disclosure here).
What that money does not buy is the numbers. No partner has any influence over what the data shows, nothing is listed here that isn’t personally used, and no result is ever ordered or weighted by who pays. That is the actual independence claim: the numbers answer to the people who file, not to an advertiser.
What it costs to run
Running NFA Watch isn’t free. Every visit queries a live database and runs cohort analytics in real time; the database, hosting, bandwidth, and domain all cost money, and those costs grow as more people use the project.
It costs about $45/month to keep NFA Watch running. That covers the database, the domain, and the tooling used to build and maintain it.
The bigger cost is the hours — collecting reports, cleaning the data, and keeping the charts honest happens on nights and weekends.
Right now the project runs at a loss. Contributions from people who find it useful — and the occasional affiliate commission — go toward closing that gap. The goal is to break even and keep improving coverage as the dataset grows, not to turn this into a business.
